Abstract

In this thesis, I discuss the novel by Jamaica Kincaid entitled Lucy. I discuss the characteristics of the main character in his search for Dissappointments because of parents and betrayal. The main character in this novel is Lucy, a teenage girl who feels betrayed or unloved by her mother after the birth of her brother. This betrayal led to Lucy's unhappiness. Therefore, he went to America, the land he had always dreamed of, with the thought that he would find his happiness there. However, when she arrived in America, Lucy was unable to get that happiness. Disappointment and bitterness in her past have shaped Lucy into a negative character. He is described as someone full of anger, disappointment, a desire to hurt other people's feelings, and doubts about the goodness of others, which in the end does not make his life better. In conclusion Jamaica Kincaid in Lucy pirtrays human Dissappointments, especially woman’s.
