Abstract
This thesis discusses social prejudice in Mulk Raj Anand‟s Untouchable. The novel is seen and representation of social prejudice experienced by outcaste people. This study is library research and applies mimetic theory proposed by Abrams saying that literature is an imitation of the real world. This analysis focuses on hostility and discriminatory actions. This novel serves as a poignant exploration of social prejudice within the Indian caste system. The story revolves around the life of the protagonist, Bakha, an outcaste or untouchable, who faces pervasive discrimination and marginalization due to his lower social status. Through vivid and raw storytelling, Anand sheds light on the dehumanizing effects of social prejudice and highlights the urgent need for societal reform. Anand challenges readers to confront the harsh realities faced by Bakha and others like him, provoking a deeper understanding of the psychological and emotional toll of social prejudice. The novel also delves into the complexities of caste-based discrimination, examining its origins, justifications, and its impact on both the oppressors and the oppressed. . In conclusion, the author, Mulk Raj Anand through his novel Untouchable exposes the destructive impact of social prejudice while igniting a sense of urgency for social change.
