Abstract
Science and technology always develop in line with the development of human life, but there are negative impacts that cannot be avoided. The objectives of this study are to examine the dark sides of science and technology and the impacts on human life. This study uses a narrative qualitative methodology. The primary data are taken from a novel entitled Never Let Me Go written by Kazuo Ishiguro. The data are supplemented with relevant sources using library research. This study employs a literary sociology theory proposed by Wellek and Warren. The results of this study show that there are two dark sides of science and technology found, namely: 1) alienation characterized by feelings of helplessness, meaninglessness, and abnormality. The individuals/groups are isolated from the world around them which have an impact on damaged relationships and the assumption that the outside world threatens the lives of individuals/groups; 2) exploitation characterized by actions that threaten the existence of individuals/groups, organ transplants that violate human dignity, act of slavery and using humans as a sources of organs and resulting in individuals/groups being oppressed and leading to death.
