Qar Comprehension Strategy and Its Impact On Seventh-Grade Reading Comprehension At SMP Negeri 30 Medan

The purpose of this study is to assess whether the Question-Answer Relationship (QAR) method has a significant effect on students' comprehension of reading texts. An experimental setup was utilized for this research. The investigation was conducted at SMP Negeri 30 Medan. The participants were seventh graders from SMP Negeri 30 Medan, comprising 64 pupils split into two classes, VII-8 assigned as the experimental cohort and VII-7 as the control cohort. Each class included 32 students with comparable academic abilities. The QAR approach was used for teaching the experimental group, while traditional teaching methods were employed for the control group. Before the intervention, both groups took a pre-test. The results from the pre-test showed that the experimental group had an average score of 51.13, whereas the control group's average was 50.13. Following the intervention, a post-test was conducted. The post-test findings indicated that the experimental group achieved an average score of 72.50, in contrast to the control group's average of 54.75. The computed t-test value for the experimental group was -23.517, which exceeds the critical t-table value of ±2.040 at a significance level of 0.05 (df = 31, two-tailed). As a result, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. To sum up, the QAR strategy proves to be an effective approach for improving reading comprehension, demonstrating a significant impact on the understanding of recount texts among the seventh graders at SMP Negeri 30 Medan.
